Living in a valley means the chase for fall colors begins early. Unlike the lower elevations, the mountain leaves transform in a blaze of glory, and without the benefit of live mountain cams, the hunt for peak foliage becomes an exciting adventure. Weekends were spent driving up the mountain, anticipation building with each turn of the road. Disappointment followed the first two trips – the vibrant hues I craved were still a promise on the horizon. But persistence is a photographer's virtue, and the third journey yielded a reward beyond imagination.

This photograph is a testament to perseverance and a touch of serendipity. After venturing up the mountain for three consecutive weekends, the colors finally began to hit their stride. Our exploration led us off the beaten path, where we stumbled upon a charming enclave of cabins, each one seemingly bursting with a kaleidoscope of autumnal hues. The scene was a photographer's paradise. The aspens, depending on their location in sun or shade, displayed a magnificent range of color, from fiery orange to golden yellow, all contrasting beautifully with the evergreens that remained a steadfast green.
